ULS Matosinhos - Hospital Pedro Hispano

The Local Health Unit of Matosinhos was created in 1999, integrating the Hospital Pedro Hispano and the Health Centers of Matosinhos, Senhora da Hora, Leça da Palmeira and São Mamede Infesta, with a view to providing care to the population of Matosinhos. Since 2007 it has also been part of a Convalescent Unit of short duration and in terms of Public Health, the Center for Health and Borders. It constitutes a reference at the national level, in the integration of assistance, primary, hospital and continuous care.

ULSM's main purpose is to provide healthcare to all citizens in general, namely: users of the National Health Service (SNS); to external entities that contract the provision of health care with him; non-resident foreign citizens under the national and international legislation in force. The ULSM also aims to: Ensure the activities of operational public health services and the necessary means to exercise the powers of the health authority in the geographic area covered by it; Develop research, training and teaching activities, with their participation in the training of health professionals depending on their training capacity, which may be the object of contracts – a program in which the respective forms of financing are defined.

ULSM's mission is to promote health based on the identification of community needs, ensuring access to integrated, preventive, personalized, humanized, technical, scientific and relational health care throughout the life cycle, creating a strong sense of bonding and trust in employees and users.

Created in 2014, with the mission of supporting and promoting clinical research at the Local Health Unit of Matosinhos, the Clinical Trials Center, operating at Hospital Pedro Hispano, resulted from a collaboration protocol signed with Blueclinical, following the publication of the Clinical Investigation Law, which resulted in a framework opportunity for the promotion of this activity. This Research Service aims to promote clinical research in all its aspects, creating conditions for its realization. As such, ULSM considers this area to be a key area for a number of reasons. If, on the one hand, for professionals, it is another factor of involvement in the development of medicines and medical devices that allows them to increase their knowledge and training, on the other hand, it allows ULSM users access to innovative therapies and new health technologies that can respond to your needs, contributing to the objective of this Health Unit of providing an excellent service to your community. It also allows access to the cutting edge of scientific knowledge and the adoption of best practices in patient follow-up, also generating higher quality data to support decision-making in the healthcare area.
