Hospital Professor Doctor Fernando Fonseca (HFF) is a first-rate hospital for the approximately 550,000 inhabitants of the Municipalities of Amadora and Sintra. Additionally, the Institution develops assistance activities and research activities, teaching and pre- and post-graduate training.
The Hospital's mission is to provide humanized and differentiated health care throughout the person's life cycle, in conjunction with primary and continued health care, as well as with other Hospitals integrated in the National Health Service network. A practiced capacity of 789 beds exists, highlighting the existence of a cirurgical facility with 11 rooms.
In addition to the emergency services existing at the Hospital (General Emergency, Obstetrics, Gynecology and Pediatric Emergency), HFF also offers the population a Basic Emergency Service located in the Parish of Algueirão - Mem Martins.
The Clinical Investigation Unit (Unidade de Investigação Clínica, UIC) was created in March 2018, and incorporated fundamental concepts of action that are aligned with the institution's strategic objectives. The UIC is characterized by a multidisciplinary team responsible for ensuring rigor in the scientific planning of the presented studies , for compliance with good clinical practices by researchers and for the negotiation of contracts for projects financed by external promoters. The UIC's mission is to promote quality clinical research, in a sustained and organized manner, according to standards that value systematized knowledge through the management of interfaces associated with Research, Development and Innovation and complying with applicable ethical and legal provisions, for the benefit of the Hospital, Community, Patients and Families/Caregivers. Its Vision is to be a reference in the promotion of good practices in hospital clinical research and to consolidate a transversal scientific culture in the institution.
