Institution Description

Hospital Distrital de Santarém, EPE (HDS) is a public, differentiated district hospital, with universal access and administrative, financial and patrimonial autonomy, that is integrated in the NHS, in the Regional Health Administration of Lisboa and Vale do Tejo (ARSLVT).

The Hospital's current organizational model is based on a Departmental philosophy that comprises:

General Ward Department of Medicine, Surgical Department, Department of Women and Children, Department of Psychiatry and Mental Health, Non-COVID Intensive Care Unit, COVID Intensive Care Unit.

Non-COVID Medical-Surgical Emergency Department General Emergency, Pediatric Emergency, Obstetrics/Gynecology Emergency.

COVID Medical-Surgical Emergency Department General Emergency, Pediatric Emergency, Obstetrics/Gynecology Emergency.

Operating Rooms Main Operating Room, Outpatient Surgery Unit, Minor Surgery Rooms for outpatients.

It ensures the provision of health care to a resident population of around 185 thousand inhabitants distributed in the municipalities of Almeirim, Alpiarça, Cartaxo, Chamusca, Coruche, Golegã, Salvaterra de Magos, Santarém and Rio Maior in an area of ​​3,500 km2. In addition to the latter, the Hospital also provides care to populations from other municipalities in the District in specialties that have had a high technical and technological development at the Hospital, such as Vascular Surgery, Dermatology, Infectious Diseases, Psychiatry and Oncological Radiotherapy. The distribution of the population in the Hospital's area of ​​influence presents a very accentuated rural dispersion and is composed of a very aged population.
