Institution Description

Centro Hospitalar Universitário São João aims at being an example in the provision of healthcare at the national and international levels, with a perspective of sustainable growth, commitment, sense of change and differentiation, aiming to create value and become a reference in the healthcare industry.
The mission of Centro Hospitalar Universitário São João (CHUSJ) is based on three main areas: clinical care, teaching and research.
Clinical trials are paramount for CHUSJ, which intends to offer the possibility of early access to innovative therapies, also contributing to Society in general, by collaborating in the process that allows the establishment of safety and efficacy of new treatments.

Centro Hospitalar Universitário de São João (CHUSJ) has a coverage area extending from the far north of the country to the central region, being the reference healthcare unit (primary and secondary) for about 3 million people.

The mission of CHUSJ is to provide the best healthcare, with high levels of competence and excellence, providing also undergraduate and postgraduate training and research, always respecting the principle of humanization and promoting the pride and sense of belonging of all the professionals.

We aim to set an example in the provision of healthcare at national and international levels, with a perspective of sustainable growth, commitment, a sense of change and differentiation, aiming to create value and become the benchmark brand in the healthcare sector.

Technological advances in the service of health care provided, its management and the institution's interaction with the target audiences have been reflected in the management indicators presented for several consecutive years, in the recognition received in terms of the quality translated into the various rankings.

The pursuit of innovation and excellence in the service provided is a constant concern that gives rise to differentiating projects in numerous areas of CHUSJ intervention, ranging from research to healthcare. CHUSJ favors articulation and close collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto in the context of undergraduate and postgraduate training, scientific research and clinical activity, according to the collaboration protocol approved by the Ministries of Health and Science, Technology and Higher Education, as well as in the legislation applicable to Clinical Academic Centers.
