HINTT 2021 Award – Coimbra IPO collaborates with winning project

Coimbra's IPO was once again present at the award ceremony of the HINTT 2021 Award, after the Institution was a finalist, in 2019, with the candidacy “Caring for women who survived breast cancer” and after having won the HINTT Award – Digital Maturity, in the “Patient Safety” category, with the Oncommunities project.

This year, it is with great satisfaction that the Coimbra IPO welcomes the attribution of the HINTT Prize – Digital Maturity, in the “Clinical Outcomes” category to Fraunhofer AICOS, for the application “DERM.AI- Use of Artificial Intelligence to Enhance Tracking Teledermatológico”, a project marked by the collaboration of the Coimbra IPO with the Fraunhofer Portugal Association and the SPMS (Shared Services of the Ministry of Health).

This project aims to use artificial intelligence in teledermatological screening, aiming to evaluate a mobile application that allows an easy acquisition of skin lesions with quality and the development of an Artificial Intelligence platform to prioritize the risk of lesions.

This platform constitutes a tool to support the triator's decision, being particularly useful in the risk assessment of skin cancer, namely melanoma, in which timely screening is of great importance.
