Grupo Lusíadas Saúde, founded in 1998, is a reference group in the health sector in Portugal with hospitals and clinics from north to south of the country. Grupo Lusíadas Saúde provides services nationwide through 6 Hospitals and 5 Clinics.
In 2020, Grupo Lusíadas, considering investment in clinical research, education and training as essential, established the Associação Lusíadas Knowledge Center - Health & Research, a corporate academy to support education, clinical and scientific research in the different units of the group, as well as the dissemination of knowledge to other external entities. The Lusíadas Knowledge Center was created to change the panorama of clinical research and promote scientific development within Grupo Lusíadas Saúde.
Grupo Lusíadas Saúde covers the entire country with more than 6,000 health professionals, 6 Hospitals and 7 Clinics, including:
- Hospital Lusíadas Porto, Hospital Lusíadas Braga, Hospital Lusíadas Lisbon and Hospital Lusíadas Albufeira, Hospital Lusiadas Amadora.
- Clinica Lusíadas Gaia, Clinica Lusíadas Almada, Clinica Lusíadas Oriente, Clinica Lusíadas Forum Algarve, Clinica Lusíadas Faro;
- Hospital de Cascais (PPP).
The LKC is responsible for managing and developing the areas of research and clinical innovation, providing a strategy supported by tools and methodologies that drive creative thinking and innovation: clinical trials and observational studies under the scope of the sponsor and the researcher.
The director of the LKC is Dr. Marta Figueiredo. Three dedicated study coordinators (João Ribeiro, Simão Ferreira ) support the entire research activity at Hospital Lusiadas Lisboa, Hospital Lusíadas Porto, Clínica de Santo António, Hospital Lusiadas de Braga and Hospital de Cascais.
Dr.ª Catarina Sousa, Dr.ª Maria João Lobão and Dr.ª Andreia Duarte, Corporate Director of Pharmacy, provide scientific support in the formation of teams, assessment of feasibility of trials, drug circuit and interface with the industry.
At LKC, two specific centers were created:
- The Scientific Information Center (Scientific Information Center) coordinated by Dr. Helena Donato, provides several services such as availability of articles for consultation, selective dissemination of information (bibliographies by profile; summary bulletins), systematic research (support for the publication of reviews systems) and management of research results (assistance in the organization through bibliographic software (Endnote Web).
- Epidemiology and Statistics Center (Epidemiology and Biostatistics Center) coordinated by Dr. Sara Dias, supports doctors, nurses and other health professionals in their research work, from the design and execution of the study, analysis and interpretation of data and writing of scientific articles.
