Institution Description

The Hospital Center Entre o Douro e Vouga, EPE, headquartered in Santa Maria da Feira, was created following the publication of Decree-Law no. 27/2009, of 27 January, which brings together the Hospital de São Sebastião, EPE (Santa Maria da Feira), the District Hospital of São João da Madeira and the Hospital de São Miguel (Oliveira de Azeméis), with effect from the 1st of February 2009. The Hospital Center became responsible for providing healthcare to a population of around 340,000 inhabitants, residing in the municipalities of Santa Maria da Feira, Arouca, São João da Madeira, Oliveira de Azeméis, Vale de Cambra, Ovar and Castelo de Paiva (some parishes) .

With the creation of the Hospital Center, the necessary conditions were established for a better articulation between hospital units in the northern part of the District of Aveiro, improving accessibility to outpatient consultations in various specialties and facilitating the management of surgical waiting lists. On the other hand, it provided a greater rationalization of available human and material resources.
