Centro Hospitalar de Lisboa Ocidental (CHLO) is composed by three hospitals in the western region of Lisbon, Egas Moniz Hospital, São Francisco Xavier Hospital and Santa Cruz Hospital, that together offer specialized care on all areas of medicine. Clinical and translational research are considered priorities in our mission alongside excellence in clinical care. Patients are regularly invited to participate in observational studies and clinical trials allowing access to innovation and specialized care, but, in fact, patients do represent, more than customers, real partners in the process of clinical research. Good clinical practice principles have been disseminated in all departments of the center and medical doctors that start residency have mandatory clinical research training. A longstanding relation with Nova Medical School dictated a partnership with Nova CRU that assures Clinical Coordination in the different departments.
Departamento de Investigação Clínica is responsible for the organization of all procedures related with clinical research including:
To promote, monitor and disseminate studies and research projects carried out in the center
To submit all clinical study and projects applications to the Administration Board and to the Hospital Ethics Committee
To support all investigator driven clinical research projects, including financing administration and management of external audits
To help investigators with all research activities, including feasibility, conduction of study visits, data entry and query resolution
To support the process of documentation collection for study submissions and completion of financial agrrements.
To encourage the establishment of research groups, including interaction with fundamental investigators aiming at translational research
To stimulate national and foreign institutional scientific cooperation, as well as help in establishing protocols with external entities
To act as a consultant to the Administration Board in all clinical research issues, including advice in finantial support and research grants / prizes
